New year, new lineup, and a renewed focus on original music.
As we kick off 2026, I’m pumped to welcome Michael Ojeda (keys and alto sax) and Zach Messer (bass) to the lineup. Michael is the son of the great Marty Ojeda, longtime Logan County band director. On the flip side, Zach started out as one of my trombone players in the Tug Valley Band about ten years ago. We reconnected a few years back, and he’s been living in one of the apartments in the C.E. Roberts Building I manage as part of my work with the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum. He locked in quickly during rehearsal, and it was immediately clear he was a great fit. Terry Soltesz returns on drums to round out the lineup.
Marietta Recap
Shoutout to Alex Offenberger and my best friend Jordan Melott for jumping into a weekend of music with me. We pulled a band together for a couple days and it clicked fast. We’ll jam again. Be sure to check out their band, Sybils Silence.
Marietta, thanks for rolling with the weather and making it worth the trip. See you soon!
Bernie in Lenore!?
Many politicians come here to make promises or take photo ops. They love to tell us how much they love coal. Bernie isn’t running for anything here, but I believe he understands what’s at stake for regular people under our current political landscape. That’s why he’s going out on a speaking tour. It’s not always comfortable to take a step out, but it’s important to stand up for what you believe is right. I’m humbled to get a chance to perform before Senator Sanders and use my voice and music to spread the message I believe
Magnolia Fair Festival 2025
I’m excited to share I was added to the bill of the Magnolia Fair Festival this year. I’ll be kicking off day one of the fair on Wednesday, June 4 at 6:30 PM. The festival runs June 4–7, 4 PM–11 PM. Wristbands are $15.
Mate Street Melodies: Thomas Jude — Saturday, May 24 @ 6 PM
On May 24 I’m headed to the Matewan Community Center above the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum for the next Mate Street Melodies session. It’ll be a stripped-down, mostly acoustic set; just guitar, vocals, and some trumpet here and there. Expect brand-new tunes that I’ll be performing for the first time, some old favorites I’ve performed with Terry Hunt or the Thomas Jude Band, and a few favorite covers!
Who is Thomas Jude?
Hello there! Thank you so much for stopping by to check out my little corner of the internet. My name is Thomas, and I'm a music teacher, musician, and proud West Virginian from the small town of Delbarton.
Reflections on Year 3 of Highwall Music Festival
My journey of planning a music festival started over three years ago now. We finished the last round back in early August. Despite getting rained on for the duration of the first day, the second day went off without a hitch. I’m not sure what the future holds for the festival, but I feel privileged to have met so many talented folks who have helped me pull it off.
